On Monday, August 13, 2018 at approximately 12:34 P.M. the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body lying along State Road 49 south of County Road 900 North in the Wheatfield, Indiana area.

Upon arrival of Jasper County Sheriffs’ Deputies it was confirmed that the remains of a white female had been discovered near the roadway.  An investigation was immediately launched along with Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators being called to the location.

During the investigation the victim was identified as Alexis Waugaman, age 19 of Wheatfield, Indiana.  Ms. Waugaman had been reported as missing by family members on August 11th and was last seen in the area of her residence during the evening hours of August 9, 2018.

Preliminary evidence from the on scene investigation revealed that Ms. Waugaman had been the victim of a hit and run vehicle versus pedestrian fatality.

Assisting the Jasper County Sheriffs’ Detectives were units from Indiana State Police, an Indiana Conservation Officer, and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

Accident debris at the scene indicates a possible full size van, light in color that should exhibit signs of damage to the headlight assembly area on the passenger side.  If anyone believes they have viable information on this investigation please contact Jasper County Sheriff’s Detectives Buschman or Kidwell at 219-866-1312 or 219-866-7344.
